The Cut Of Diamonds – What To Look For

Too many diamond rings are purchased from “discount jewelers” by people who don’t know what to look for.

The cut of a diamond describes the proportions and angles. Many people confuse the cut with the shape. Diamonds are available in a variety of shapes including round, square, pear, heart, marquise and oval, but cut refers to the angles and proportions of a diamond. It takes a master diamond cutter to reveal a diamond’s true beauty.

Diamond Rings cut

A diamond that is well cut reflects light from one mirror-like facet to another and projects the light through the top of the diamond. The result is a fiery, brilliant beautiful display. Diamonds that are cut too deep or too shallow leak light through the side or bottom, resulting in a disappointing lackluster appearance and diminish value.
