Built in 1907

In 1907 the Starnes and Parker families built a beautiful opera house in downtown Albemarle. The Romanesque Revival architecture has added character to the line of beautiful buildings on Main Street for more than 100 years. The building included two stores at the street level. One of those was Starnes Jewelers.

Today, the opera house is closed. But Starnes has remained a thriving Albemarle business for over 104 years.
